Dragon Age III: Inquisition Announced

Finally BioWare has revealed the first details for Dragon Age III: Inquisition. During their panel at Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo last weekend, the developers revealed the first titbit's of information.

The fantasy RPG sequel will once again star a human hero, this time with varied backgrounds setting th stage for the direction of the story itself. Thankfully this appears to suggest that Hawke is out of the picture which, in my opinion, can only be a good thing. Mike Laidlaw, the Creative Direct at BioWare, followed this up on Twitter by stating that other playable races could be possible in future Dragon Age franchise games.

With Inquisition BioWare are aiming for the biggest Dragon Age yet, with a greater scale of customisation, including options for your follows, as well as an entire castle for you to play with. In fact the concept art released a new visual style for the series as seen below.

The panel also reminded the attendees that series writer David Gaider will return to pen Inquisition, and that one level of DAIII will exceed the size of all of the DAII stages. This seems like a welcome change considering the lack of enjoyment provided out of the second instalment as Hawke’s adventure was bland and rather repetitive.

BioWare are once again investigating new ways to carry over the choices from the part games without directly transferring save data. This could leads to some really interesting dynamics within the new game which is something fans of the series will be pleased for I’m sure.

Flemeth will be back too which pleased the crowd immensely.

Inquisition has spend a long time in pre-production ironing out the issue players had with the second instalment and looks to be returning the series to its enjoyable roots.  It will be the first BioWare game to run on the Frostbite 2 Engine as well and is currently scheduled for release in Winter 2013.
