In a previous post I outlined the first 5 NES games being given out to the 3DS Ambassadors for free from the 1st September this year. Nintendo have now released the final 5 games to complete the 10 piece set. As a 3DS Ambassador myself I am extremely excited to get my hands of some classic games in their new portable form.
Wrecking Crew
In this game the player controls Mario in an attempt to destroy all of a set of objects with a large hammer. Mario cannot Jump because of the weight of the hammer he is carrying and must have a strategy to complete each of the 100 plus levels. The player starts with 5 lives and loses one for each contact Mario has with an enemy or a fireball. This is a basic platform game with certain aspects of strategy.
NES Open Tournament Golf
Originally developed for the NES in 1991, NES Open Tournament Gold is the second Nintendo published Golf Video game. Like most Mario games the first player is Mario and the second player can play as Luigi. At certain points during the round the brothers are offered advice by their caddies, Princess Peach and Princess Daisy. There are two versions of the game – one with three courses and the other with five. I for one am hoping for the five course version even if it’s just for a bit more longevity.
Yoshi Egg
The player controls Mario or Luigi and keeps blocks with monsters inside them from piling up to the top of the screen. The player must arrange the blocks accordingly to ensure that the blocks break down and create Yoshi’s. When a chain of monsters within two Yoshi Egg Shells merge a Yoshi is formed, the larger the chain the most powerful the Yoshi will be.
Metroid
Metroid on the NES is an action adventure game where the player controls Samus along a two dimensional world. The game takes place on the planet Zebes which is a large, open world with areas connected by doors and elevators. The player explores more areas and collects power-ups that grant Samus special abilities and enhance her armour and weaponry, granting access to areas that were previously inaccessible.
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Link’s second outings was originally released in 1987 (4 days after I was born) and was received with widely great acclaim. The direct sequel to the original The Legend of Zelda, sets Link out on a quest to save the princess again as she has fallen under a sleeping spell. This instalment has more of an emphasis on side-scrolling and the RPG elements of the original but was a significant departure from it’s predecessor.
These are all great games which were well received on their original released and a welcome addition to the collect of any retro video game fans. I will be logging on first thing tomorrow to get myself ready for these games and hopefully you all can too.
If you are unsure whether you have access to the Ambassador program then go check the official Nintendo Website where you can use your system’s serial number to check. If you didn’t manage to get online before the time limit then you can still provide proof of purchase and get your free games that way too. Again all the details for this can be found on the Official Nintendo 3DS website.
If you missed the previous list it included:
Ice Climbers
Donkey Kong Jr
Super Maria Bros
Balloon Fight
The Legend of Zelda
