Creative Director Change for 343 Industries and Halo 4

Recent news has been released to details that the Halo 4 creative director Ryan Payton has left developer 343 Industries. He has stated that the game has become a ‘crazy endeavour’.

Payton has been writing the game’s story and heading the creative team through the development process. He was mainly tasked with developing the fictional Halo Universe for the forthcoming trilogy but has found himself less interested in the project.

He told Kotaku that “After a few years, there came a point where I wasn't creatively excited about the project anymore.”

He then went on to say that the Halo project has become fundamentally different from the visions he had for the franchise.

After several years at Microsoft's Halo studio, Payton lost interest in the project. He also worked on Metal Gear Solid 4.

“I never thought I'd get to a point where I was so drained,” said Payton, and when he did he knew it was time to do something about it.

The Halo project no longer works in the way he wanted it to and felt that he couldn’t waste one more day working on something that doesn't speak to his values.

Ryan Payton has two other titles in the works at his studio Camouflaj.

He has also reiterated that the Halo Project was not running badly but that it didn’t meet the project ideas he had.

The new Halo project has had its fair share of issues after it changed developers but hopefully this will not affect the end product. I’m still excited about the new trilogy and from what I’ve seen of 343’s development of the franchise so far the universe appears to be in good hands for the future.
