Xbox 360 - Possible Streamworks Software Update

A recent report has outlined that an ‘Xbox Support’ option has become available on Steams Support area.

For those of you who don’t know Steam is a digital distribution website from Value that was released in 2003 to worldwide success. As of July 2011 there were over 1300 games available on demand and usually at a reduced price too. The software available comes from many different developers and has a massive user base.

The most interesting thing about this option is the fact that Steam isn’t available for either of the Xbox platforms. Steamworks is only currently available on Playstion 3 on the home console base. Value have said that this is due to Microsoft’s reluctance to open up the Xbox Live infrastructure but this could change in the wake of the Playstation 3 price drop that has given them a sales boost.

I suppose the big question is whether this will be a dedicated support option or if the option was produced in error. Either way this is the first hint of Steam coming to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console – I’m one man hoping that this is a look into the future.
